Products store the specific dollar rates for those tiers. Because rule logic is separate from pricing, a single rule (such as **Weekend Pricing**) can be reused across day passes, session passes, and packages — with distinct prices assigned to each product. The steps are the same whatever kind of rule you've built. Only the tier columns change. > [!NOTE] > The permission required to apply a price rule to a product is **Can edit products**. Administrators and managers have this permission enabled by default. ## How it works | What you set | Where you set it | | --- | --- | | Tiers and the conditions that trigger them | The price rule, in **Products** > **Price rules** | | The price for each variation in each tier | The product, in the variations table | ## Before you begin - **Build rules first:** [Create price rules](/v1/docs/get-started-with-price-rules) before assigning them to products. If you modify a rule's tiers later, you must temporarily unlink it from all associated products. - **One rule per product:** A product can only have one active price rule at a time, though one rule can attach to multiple products. - **Check product compatibility:** Review rule restrictions before setup (eg packages only support price rules on single-pass items at a quantity of 1). - **Existing bookings are unchanged:** Price rule updates only affect new purchases. - **HQ-managed products:** Products managed by HQ may have locked price rule fields. ## Apply the price rule and set prices 1. From Venue Manager, go to **Products** > **All products**. 2. Select the product you want to price. 3. Scroll to the price rule configuration section (eg session pass or standard pass details). 4. Select a rule from the **Price rule** drop-down. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/23700755-951c-4b69-8afe-ec8b33c6c689/Images/Documentation/image(76).png) The variations table automatically expands with new columns for your rule's tiers (such as quantity thresholds, lead-time ranges, or custom session tiers). For packages, the first tier is read-only (derived from the included pass). 5. Enter the price for each ticket variation (eg Adult, Child) across every tier column. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/23700755-951c-4b69-8afe-ec8b33c6c689/Images/Documentation/image(74).png) 6. Optional: Configure how this pricing appears to guests online by selecting the checkbox below the variations table. The exact name of this checkbox changes based on your selected rule: ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/23700755-951c-4b69-8afe-ec8b33c6c689/Images/Documentation/image(75).png) - **Quantity-based:** Show quantity savings on checkout - **Time-based or capacity-based:** Show price comparisons on checkout - **Early bird:** Highlight early bird pricing on checkout 7. Select **Save**. > [!NOTE] > The checkout display checkbox is selected by default for new products. It controls the promotional banner guests see during online checkout, not the actual prices charged. To see examples, see [Manage checkout display settings for price rules](/v1/docs/price-rules-checkout-display). ## Check it works Confirm the rule is working before you rely on it. 1. Open your online checkout and add tickets until you cross into the next tier. The price should update on its own. 2. Create a test booking in POS and in Venue Manager, and check the same tier applies. If the price doesn't change, check that the rule is still selected in the **Price rule** drop-down and that you've entered a price in every tier column. ## Related - [Manage checkout display settings for price rules](/price-rules-checkout-display.md) - [Manage and optimize price rules](/manage-and-optimize-your-price-rules.md) - [Why didn't my price rule charge the price I expected?](/why-did-a-guest-pay-a-different-price.md) - [How price rules work with different product types](/price-rules-product-types.md)
