# How do I add a QR code to receipts?

A QR code turns a printed receipt into something a guest can act on, so your staff don't have to explain the next step at the counter. Venues use it to let guests check themselves in from their receipt, to point guests to a survey, to show compliance information where local rules need it and to put a discount code in a guest's hand for their next visit.

You can print a QR code on a receipt in two ways. Which one you can use depends on how your venue prints receipts.

| Give guests a unique discount code to use on their next visit | Turn on **Print discount on receipt** in the settings of the discount code that issues a code on purchase | Cloud printing or ROLLER Connect |

If your venue prints with ROLLER Connect, you can't add a QR code to your receipt template. But, you can still print a discount code with a QR code.

## Add a QR code to your receipt template when using cloud printing

> You need cloud printing to add a QR code or barcode to a receipt template. This option isn't available with ROLLER Connect. To move your venue to cloud printing, see the guide [Get started with cloud printing](/v1/docs/get-started-with-cloud-printing).

1. From Venue Manager, go to **Settings** > **Design** > **Receipt templates**.
2. Select the template you want to edit. Alternatively, select the options menu (3 dots), then select **Edit template**.
3. Select the panel that contains the QR code or barcode element.
4. Turn on the QR code.
5. Review your changes in the live preview on the right. Your receipts show the update when they're next issued at POS.

> Printer limits apply. The EPSON TM-U220IIB has limited graphical capabilities, so it can't print barcodes on receipts. To check what your printer model supports, see the guide [Get started with cloud printing](/v1/docs/get-started-with-cloud-printing).

## Print a discount code with a QR code on receipts

This option works with discount codes set to issue a code on purchase, so a guest gets a unique code when they buy a specific product. The printed code includes a QR code, redemption instructions and an expiry date.

> Printing a discount code with a QR code on receipts works with both cloud printing and ROLLER Connect.

1. From Venue Manager, go to **Products** > **Discount codes**.
2. Select a discount code.
3. Select **Issue code on purchase**.
4. Choose which products trigger the code.
5. Turn on **Print discount on receipt**.
6. Under **Sales channels**, choose which channels generate and issue the code.
7. Enter redemption instructions to tell guests when and how they can use their discount.
8. Select **Save**.

If **Receipts can be emailed from POS** is turned on in your global POS settings, the issued discount code is also included in the receipt PDF sent to guests after a POS purchase.
