# How do I redeem gift cards at POS?

## Problem

Guests sometimes do not have their gift card easily accessible when checking in at POS. They may have misplaced their receipt, can’t find the email or have lost the physical card itself. In addition, gift cards purchased at POS do not have the gift card ID listed on receipts or emails, only the booking ID.

> The gift card ID is a unique identifier assigned to gift cards that is either generated automatically or [defined by you](/v1/docs/issue-a-physical-gift-card-at-pos).

## Solution

If the gift card ID is not readily available, knowing how to find the relevant information at POS speeds up the redemption process and saves you and your guests time.

You can find the gift card ID and other important information by using the **Search** function at POS. This allows you to redeem the gift card from a single location as opposed to a staff member having to search through Venue Manager.

Follow the steps below to search for and redeem gift cards at POS.

## Search for gift card IDs at POS

1. From POS, go to **Search**.
2. Select the **Gift Cards** tab in the top navigation bar.
3. Enter one of the following criteria in the search bar:
  - Name of the gift card holder.
  - Name of the gift card purchaser.
  - The booking ID. This is available either on the receipt or on the [digital gift card](/v1/docs/receiving-a-digital-gift-card-from-roller).
  - The ticket ID (multi-venue gift cards only).
4. Copy the gift card ID number (eg **#2502241996**) under the gift card recipient’s name in the search results. You will use this number to redeem the gift card as a payment method.
5. [Optional] You can select a gift card from the search results and the record will display additional information, such as:
  - Purchase history (purchase date and any deductions from sales).
  - Expiry date (if applicable).

## Redeem gift cards at POS

1. From the POS menu, select a product and add it to the cart.
2. Select **Pay total**. Note: Depending on your product settings, you may need to attach a waiver to the tickets in the cart before you can proceed to the payment page. In this scenario, select **Continue**.
3. [Optional] Add the **Guest details** if prompted to do so and select **Save and continue**.
4. Select **Gift Card** from the **Select payment method** screen.
5. Use one of the following methods to enter the gift card ID:
  - Manually enter the gift card ID.
  - Scan the barcode of a [physical gift card](/v1/docs/issue-a-physical-gift-card-at-pos).
  - Scan a QR code from a [digital gift card](/v1/docs/receiving-a-digital-gift-card-from-roller).
6. Select **Tender**.
7. Enter the amount to charge the gift card.
8. Select **Pay Gift card**.

> If the amount owing is more than the gift card balance, the button turns yellow and says **Partial payment**. You are then prompted to either **Take another payment**, **Complete booking** or **Cancel partial payment**.
