# Issue a physical gift card at POS

Here's how to issue a physical gift card from POS.

Before you begin, make sure that your gift card products are added to your [POS device menu](/v1/docs/create-and-edit-pos-menus).

1. From POS, select the gift card product. If you're issuing a custom gift card, you will need to enter the price required for its value.
2. When prompted, scan the physical gift card barcode or manually enter the gift card number into ROLLER. Then select **Apply**.
3. [Optional] Select **Discount** and enter a [gift card discount code](/v1/docs/get-started-with-discount-codes) if you want to provide the gift card at a discount. This ensures it tracks accurately for reporting purposes.
4. Select **Pay total** and finalize the transaction.
5. [Optional] To provide the gift card as a complimentary gift, select **Complimentary** as the payment method.

## Gift card ID numbers

If your venue uses physical gift cards that don't have their own ID numbers printed on them, you'll have to include a custom gift card number when prompted to do so in POS. ROLLER best practices for custom gift card numbers include:

- Using non-sequential alphanumeric numbers and ensuring that the numbers don’t repeat.
- Using 8-digit IDs to distinguish them from your booking ID numbers.
