# Open the till drawer from POS

The **Open till** feature for POS allows you or your staff to open the cash drawer at your point of sale.

This guide walks through how to open the till drawer from POS.

## Open the till drawer

To open the till drawer from POS, follow the steps below.

1. From POS, select **More** in the bottom left of the screen.
2. Select **Open till** from the menu options.
3. This will trigger a receipt to be printed and your till drawer will open.

> [!NOTE]
> If you don't have the [right permission](/v1/docs/permissions-by-feature-and-role), you need to have someone with **Administrator or Manager-level access** to authorise this action by typing in their [POS PIN](/v1/docs/change-staff-passwords-and-pos-pins). Any staff with a [manager code](/v1/docs/set-up-manager-approval-for-pos-actions) can also complete this action, or a role with custom permissions added.

Depending on your [POS settings](/v1/docs/manage-individual-pos-device-settings), you may get a prompt to leave a **Till note**. When you select **Submit**, the print dialog will offer you the option to print a receipt for this. Select **Cancel** if you don't want to print a record of this.

1. From POS, select **More** in the bottom left of the screen.
2. Select **Settings** > **Current till session**.
3. Scroll down to **Till history** to view all till notes that have been left for the current session.

From here, you can also record any cash added into the till, or taken out of the till. To learn more, read the guide [Open, close and edit till sessions](/v1/docs/open-close-reconcile-and-edit-till-sessions).

> [!NOTE]
> If your permissions only give you access to POS, you will need to have someone with **Administrator or Manager-level access** to authorise this action by typing in their [POS PIN](/v1/docs/change-staff-passwords-and-pos-pins). Any staff with a [manager code](/v1/docs/set-up-manager-approval-for-pos-actions) can also authorise this action.
