This reduces the number of schedules you need to manage and makes bulk updates fast and easy. Operating hours also unlock the option to close online sales a set time before your venue closes for the day. See [Create session pass products](/v1/docs/create-your-session-pass-products) for setup. This guide will walk you through setting up and managing your operating hours, and once complete, you’ll be able to link product schedules to these hours. ## What you can do You can: - Set your **standard hours** (your usual weekly hours). - Add **temporary hours** (short-term changes, like holidays or closures). - Schedule **future changes** to your standard hours. - Link your **product schedules** to operating hours so they update automatically. ## Standard hours versus temporary hours | Type of hours | What it is | Examples | | --- | --- | --- | | **Standard hours** | Your usual weekly open/close times | Closed Mondays, later hours on weekends | | **Temporary hours** | Short-term overrides for specific dates | Public holidays, school holidays, maintenance days | | **Future changes** | Planned changes to standard hours, effective from a set date | New season starting July 1 | ## Before you start > [!NOTE] > The [permission](/v1/docs/permissions-by-feature-and-role) **Can edit schedules** is required for staff members to set and manage operating hours in Venue Manager. Administrator and manager [system roles](/v1/docs/create-and-manage-staff-roles-and-permissions) automatically have this permission enabled, and any custom roles based on these roles. Temporary hours override standard hours for the dates you choose. ### Steps 1. From Venue Manager, go to **Products** > **Schedules**. 2. Select **Operating** **hours** (top right). 3. Under **Temporary** **hours** **and** **closures**, select **Add**. 4. Enter a name for your temporary hours (eg Christmas holidays; Extended hours) and description. 5. From the **Dates** field, choose a single date (double-click) or date range for the temporary hours, then select **Apply**. You must select **Apply** after choosing dates. If you skip this, the dates won’t be included and you’ll see an error when you try to save. 6. To include only certain days of the week for a date range, deselect **Include every day** and select the days that apply. 7. Set the open and close times for each applicable day. By default, all days are closed. Turn on the **Open** toggle for days you want to open. 8. (Optional) Exclude specific dates: - Select the **options** **menu** (3 dots) in the top right, then select **Exclude**. - Select the date or date range you'd like to exclude. 9. Select **Save**. - Temporary hours display in a different color on the calendar. - Closed days are marked clearly. - A summary card appears for the temporary hours. - Once the period ends, hours automatically revert to your standard hours. [Wistia video player](https://fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/12vm37e504) > [!NOTE] > You can add temporary hours at any time. From Venue Manager, go to **Products** > **Schedules**. Then select **Operating** **hours** at the top right of the page. ### Temporary hours or blocked capacity? Temporary hours and blocked capacity can both cover a single date or a date range, so choose based on how much of your venue is affected. - **Temporary hours** change your venue’s open and close times, so they affect everything you sell. Use them when the whole venue closes or trades different hours, for example a public holiday or a shutdown week. Every product schedule linked to operating hours updates automatically. - **Blocked capacity** takes one or more resources out of action while the rest of your venue keeps trading. Use it when only part of the venue is affected, for example a party room under renovation. See the guide [Temporarily block or reduce capacity of a resource](/v1/docs/temporarily-block-or-reduce-capacity-of-a-resource). ## Change your standard hours You can update your standard hours immediately or set them to take effect on a future date. ### Steps 1. From Venue Manager, go to **Products > Schedules**. 2. Select **Operating** **hours** (top right). 3. Select the standard hours card. 4. Choose when changes apply: - **Immediately**: leave the **Changes take effect** date blank. - **Future date**: select a start date in the **Changes take effect** field. 5. Select **Save**. - **Immediate changes**: All linked product schedules update, and guests see the new session availability. - **Future changes:** A new card appears showing the planned change. The calendar highlights it in a different color. You can only plan one future change at a time. ## Change or delete temporary hours ### Change temporary hours 1. Select the **Temporary** **hours** card. 2. Edit the details. 3. Select **Save**. Changes apply to linked schedules. ### Delete temporary hours 1. On the **Temporary** **hours** card, select the **options** **menu** **(3 dots)**. 2. Select **Delete**. ## Create product schedules using operating hours Once your operating hours are set up, create product schedules and link them to operating hours. This way, schedule times adjust automatically when your venue’s hours change. See the guide [Create product schedules using operating hours](/v1/docs/create-your-product-schedules-using-operating-hours). ## FAQs **If my venue is always closed on Mondays, do I set this up in standard hours or temporary hours?** As this is part of your regular opening hours, set this up for your standard hours. You can always change this if you decide to open on Mondays one day in the future. Temporary hours are only for short-term adjustments to your standard hours. **Can I set my standard hours to open and close at different times for each day of the week?** Yes, you can set up different opening and closing times for each day of the week, and turn off the **Open** toggle for any days you're not open. **Can I correct my operating hours if I make a mistake?** Yes. From the **Operating hours** view, select the existing standard hours card, make any changes, then save. Changes will take effect. **Can I plan future changes to my standard operating hours?** Yes. Edit your existing standard hours and set the date when you want changes to take effect for all linked schedules. The schedules calendar shows when the new operating hours will begin by highlighting them in a different color. You can also edit any planned future changes you have already set up. **Where do I set up special hours for a short period, for example school holidays, where I want to be open longer and have more sessions available?** You can set these short-term adjustments to your standard hours using temporary hours. Any schedules linked to your opening and closing times will automatically adjust the sessions that are available for guests to book (eg extend or reduce the number of sessions). You can also update your temporary hours if you change your mind. ## Related - [Create and manage products](/create-and-manage-your-products.md) - [Create product schedules using operating hours](/create-your-product-schedules-using-operating-hours.md) - [Get started with cloud printing](/get-started-with-cloud-printing.md) - [Edit, duplicate and customize product schedules](/edit-duplicate-and-customize-product-schedules.md) - [Choose a product type](/get-started-with-products.md)
