Increase your recurring revenue and membership sales with the ability to seamlessly upgrade non-membership products to a membership, at POS.

This article will walk through how to configure upgrades in Venue Manager and then how to sell upgrades at POS.

## Configure a non-membership product to be upgradeable in Venue Manager

Before you can upgrade a non-membership product to a membership product at POS, you first need to configure the non-membership product that can be upgraded, in Venue Manager. Follow the steps below.

1. From Venue Manager, go to **Products** > **All products.**
2. Find the product you wish to edit and select the **options menu** (3 dots). Then select **Edit** from the dropdown menu. ![screenshot-roller.app-2020.05.13-12_58_08.png](https://cdn.us.document360.io/23700755-951c-4b69-8afe-ec8b33c6c689/Images/Documentation/360004247095.png)
3. Make sure that **Upgradeable** is checked under **Additional options.** ![CleanShot 2024-09-03 at 11.05.33@2x.png](https://cdn.us.document360.io/23700755-951c-4b69-8afe-ec8b33c6c689/Images/Documentation/10622151137039.png)
4. Select **Save**.

> [!NOTE]
> A non-membership product that includes a **group ticket type** can't be upgraded to a membership at POS.

## Upgrade to a membership at POS

Once you've configured your non-membership product to be upgradable in Venue Manager, you can now upgrade this product to a membership at POS. Follow the steps below.

1. Search for the booking at POS and select it to open up the details.
2. Select the **Upgrade items** option from the left-hand side panel. If the booking is not linked to a booking holder, a pop-up is going to appear to prompt you to add a booking holder before you can upgrade the item to a membership.
3. A panel will appear on the right-hand side of the POS screen. Select the product you would like to upgrade to a membership.
4. Then, select the membership the guest would like to purchase.
5. Complete the transaction.

### Payment and credits

When upgrading to a membership product, if the cost of the membership is more than the original product, a one-off pro-rata amount is charged to the guest to cover the difference.

For a **recurring membership**, if the cost of the membership is less than the original item, there is no one-off amount charged and the price difference will be credited towards the next membership payment.

> [!WARNING]
> The remaining credit balance will only be credited towards the next membership payment, and it's a venue's responsibility to refund the remaining amount after this payment has been made. For example, if a session pass that cost $30 is upgraded to a recurring membership that costs $10 a month, the first month is already paid for out of the original $30 and there's a $20 credit remaining. When the next membership payment comes around, the $10 monthly charge comes out of the remaining $20 credit. The leftover $10 credit **will not be** used towards the next membership payment and the venue can refund this amount to the customer.

If a **fixed-price membership** is purchased and the cost is less than the original item, you need to refund the difference.
