# Why am I getting a Setup failed error when updating the SSL Certificate on my Epson printer?

## Introduction

An SSL certificate helps keep your printer secure by encrypting data and protecting sensitive documents. This lowers your risk of data issues and keeps your operations safer. Still, you may see setup errors when trying to update the SSL certificate

## Solution

Before you can update the SSL certificate, your printer must be running the latest firmware. Once the firmware is updated, the device can use the certificate to create secure, encrypted connections with other systems.

Follow the steps below to update the firmware in your printer.

> [!WARNING]
> If you encounter an error configuring your printer, [please consult this article](/v1/docs/configure-printers-for-cloud-printing).

## Steps

1. Visit [https://support.epson.net/setupnavi/](https://support.epson.net/setupnavi/).
2. Search for your printer model using the search bar.
3. Select **Software**.
4. Select **Download** for the **Firmware Updater** for your printer model (eg.**TM-m30III Series Firmware Updater (Windows)**).
5. Run the installer and update the firmware.
6. Attempt to update SSL Certificate after updating firmware.
