Offering easier split payments at POS enhances the guest experience by providing a convenient, fair and flexible way for groups to settle their outstanding bills. This feature simplifies the payment process, reducing friction for both guests and staff.
This guide walks through how to take split payments at POS.
When to use
Split payments at POS works for both unpaid tabs and unpaid bookings.
Only stock products and stock-only packages will display for you to split. An unpaid tab or booking must have more than one stock item included for split payments to be an option.
Split payments at POS
To take split payments at POS, follow the steps below.
- Search for and select the unpaid tab or the unpaid booking.
- From the bottom of the POS screen, next to Total owing, select the options menu (3 dots).
- Select Split payments from the list.
- Then, select which stock items the guest will pay for and select Pay. Go through the payment flow as usual.
- To take another payment, select Take another payment and follow step 4 again. You can continue to do this until all stock items in the booking have been paid for.
- When the booking has been paid, select Done to complete the transaction and close out the tab or unpaid booking.
A note for POS staff
If you don’t settle the tab or booking in one go, then the details of which stock items have already been paid for are only stored on the POS device where the initial payments have been taken.
If the rest of the party goes to another POS device to make a payment, then this device will only know what balance is remaining, not what’s already been paid for. However, guests can never overpay for a tab or booking, so if you select stock items to pay for and this results in overpayment, you’ll get an error message asking you to simply settle the remaining balance.
