Till sessions track cash activity on a POS device and should be opened and closed daily to ensure accurate reporting. A session starts automatically with the first transaction of the day or can be started manually to confirm the previous session is closed.
This guide explains how to open, close, and reconcile till sessions, manage cash movements with Cash In/Out, and edit closed sessions if needed. If you manage multiple tills, you can also close and reconcile sessions from Venue Manager for better oversight.
Manage till sessions
- A till session starts automatically with the first transaction of the day or can be started manually by signing in to POS. It's recommended that a till session be started manually each day to make sure the previous day's session has been closed. Otherwise, the till session will remain open and continue from the previous day, inflating sales takings for the day.
- You can close and reconcile the till session from the same POS device or in Venue Manager, which is useful for managing multiple tills from the back office.
- When closing a till session, enter the total cash count to automatically calculate any variance from recorded cash transactions for the POS device in ROLLER.
- Use the Cash In/Out function during a till session to track cash additions or removals (eg petty cash, safekeeping large amounts of cash). For up to seven days, you can edit closed till sessions from POS or Venue Manager. For older sessions, refer to the Till Reconciliation report.
- Close each till session daily to ensure accurate reporting. If left open, a till session will remain active for multiple days.
Role permissions
To manage till reconciliations and till cash movements, staff require the following permissions:
- Can cash in/out POS till is required to open or close a till session and to perform cash in/out
- Can edit reconciled till session is required to edit a reconciled past till session.
These permissions help you monitor staff cash handling at tills. They are enabled by default for the administrator and manager system roles. However, you can enable them for other staff members by creating a custom role (Pro plan and above).
Open a till session
To track activity on a POS device, you must open a till session. If a till session is already open, you must close it before starting a new one.
Once a POS device is allocated, staff can sign in to POS and start making sales. If no till session is open, the first sale will automatically start a new till session.
To manually start a till session:
- Sign in to POS.
- Allocate the POS device to the station if not already.
- Select More (bottom left) > Settings > Current till session.
- If a till session is active, either continue with it (eg same day) or close it (eg start of a new day).
- If no till session is active, select Start till session.
- You can now make sales.
The Till float in POS device settings sets the starting balance. Use Cash In/Out to record balance changes. Read on to learn more.
Cash in/out
When a till session is active, staff can record the addition or removal of cash from the till via the POS cash in/out function. Follow the steps below.
- From POS, select More (3 dots) > Settings > Current till session.
- Select Cash in/out.
- From the Cash in/out window:
- Select + Cash in to record the addition of cash to the till session. Enter the cash value and select Submit.
- Select - Cash out to record the removal of cash from the till session. Enter the cash value and select Submit.
Close a till session
You can reconcile (close) a till session to prevent further activity and balance the till session. We recommend that you do this at the end of each trading day.

- From POS, select More > Settings > Current till session.
- Select Close till session at the bottom of the screen.
- Enter the total counted cash (including your float) in the Cash value field.

- Select Submit to complete the count and close the till session.
