Create a manual early bird ticket using ticket settings

This guide shows you how to manually set up an early bird ticket using a standard pass product variation and ticket settings — not using the automated early bird price rules feature. 

Use this method if you want to:

  • Show separate ticket types at checkout (for example, Early Bird and General Admission)
  • Limit the number of early bird tickets available
  • Make early bird tickets available only for a specific period
  • Provide guests with a visible comparison between ticket types at checkout
If you want pricing to adjust automatically based on when the guest books (eg 7+ days in advance = cheaper), use an early bird price rule instead.

Create a standard pass product

First, you'll need to create the standard pass product and then follow the instructions below to customize its ticket settings. 

From Venue Manager, go to Products > Create products > Standard pass.

Quantity-specific early bird tickets

This method creates a separate ticket variation for early bird pricing. It does not use price rules. If you're looking to automatically adjust prices based on how far in advance a guest books — without creating a separate ticket type — use early bird price rules instead.

You can limit a portion of your overall ticket capacity for early bird pricing. Once these tickets are sold out, only the higher-priced ticket type will be available (eg General Admission).

  1. For the Early bird ticket with a lower price, select the options menu (3 dots), then choose Edit variation.


     
  2. Deselect Unlimited and enter the quantity of tickets available (eg 100).

If you're using a resource to manage capacity for the ticket type, keep in mind that when Unlimited is disabled, the venue capacity of the resource is no longer used. 

Time-sensitive early bird tickets

This is a manual approach to ending early bird ticket sales after a set period. If you want pricing to change automatically based on how far in advance the guest books — without hiding ticket types — use early bird price rules instead.

You can manually set early bird tickets to be available for a specific period. For example, you can make them available during the first week or month, after which they disappear from checkout, leaving only other ticket types (eg General Admission or VIP).

  1. For the Early bird ticket with a lower price, select the options menu (3 dots), then select Edit variation.
  2. Select Show advanced settings.
  3. Select the Override Sales Period for This Ticket setting to change the sales period for this specific ticket type.
  4. Adjust the Sale Starts and Sales Ends dates and times.
Keep the early bird period short to maintain a sense of urgency.

Quantity and time-specific

You can combine both options above by setting a quantity limit while also defining a specific sales period for the early bird tickets in their ticket variation settings.
