Can I check in a guest who has been banned?

Prev Next

Yes. A ban doesn't block the check-in outright. If your venue has turned on approval for banned guests, POS asks for an approving POS PIN before the ticket can be redeemed, and someone with the POS admin permission decides whether to let it through.

If nobody approves it, the ticket isn't redeemed and the guest isn't checked in.

Who can approve a banned guest's ticket redemption?

Staff need the POS admin permission, which the administrator and manager system roles have by default and the POS operator role doesn't. The PIN is the approver's own POS PIN, sometimes called a manager PIN or a manager code.

See Permissions by feature and role.

What should I do at the counter when the prompt appears?

Don't redeem the ticket until someone who can approve it has seen the flag. The booking's summary panel at POS shows any flags on the guest, so the approver can look before deciding.

If nobody with the POS admin permission is on shift, the ticket can't be redeemed and the guest can't be checked in.

See Redeem tickets and assign waivers at POS.

How do I turn the banned guest prompt on or off?

The setting is Banned guests: manager code required, under Apps > Point of Sale > Settings in Venue Manager. It applies to every POS device at the venue.

With it off, staff can redeem a banned guest's ticket without approval. The flag still shows on the booking, but nothing stops the check-in.

For the full setup steps, see Set up manager approval for POS actions.

Where do banned guest flags come from?

Ban is one of several guest flags, alongside VIP, Medical, Alert and Competency. Staff with the right permission can add a flag from Venue Manager or POS, and it stays on the guest's profile until it's removed.

Staff with the right permission can ban a guest from Venue Manager or POS. See Guest flags and banned guest alerts.

Who approved a redemption, and when?

ROLLER records who approved the action and when in the POS activity log.
