How price rules work with different product types

Prev Next

Each price rule type works with a different mix of products and ticket types. Check yours here before you build a rule, so the type you pick fits the product you're pricing.

This page covers what each rule type supports, what your product setup needs and who controls a rule in a managed venue. For step-by-step setup, open the guide for your rule type.

Notes on the table:

  • Day-level pricing means you can price a standard pass by day (eg weekday against weekend). Time-of-day tiers (eg morning against afternoon) work on products with a set start time, which a standard pass doesn't have.

  • Single-pass packages means the package includes one standard or session pass at a quantity of one. Tiers price that pass, and inclusion prices (eg food, drinks, merchandise) stay the same across every tier.

  • On a party package, tiers price the party tickets. Inclusion prices stay the same across every tier.

Capacity-based price rules are in beta. To join, contact your customer success manager or the support team.

[CONFIRM: capacity-based support for group ticket variations]

Group tickets are sold as a single bundled price with the saving already built in, so a quantity-based rule has no per-ticket count to work from. Time-based and early bird rules price group variations normally, which is how you set peak or advance pricing on a group pass.

To use a quantity-based rule on a product that has a group ticket variation, remove the group ticket variation first.

What your product setup needs

  • A package includes one standard or session pass at a quantity of one, so the rule has a single pass to price.

  • The pass inside a package has no consecutive sessions configured.

  • Ticket variations set up as discounted consecutive sessions keep the pricing you set on them, so a price rule doesn't apply to those variations.

  • The product has a resource assigned to it, for capacity-based rules only. That resource is what capacity is measured against.

Where price rules apply

Quantity-based, time-based and early bird rules price every sales channel automatically. Capacity-based rules let you choose the channels. For the full picture, including which channels charge the standard rate and what a guest pays when a booking changes later, see Which sales channels a price rule applies to.

One rule per product

Each product uses one price rule at a time. You can reuse the same rule across as many products as you like, which is what keeps pricing consistent without rebuilding the rule each time.

Pick the rule that matches the thing you most want to influence right now. You can switch a product to a different rule later, and different products can run different rules.

Make a price rule available on your product

If the rule you want is missing from the Price rule drop-down, or the product shows a message instead, the setup usually explains it.

What you see

What it means

What to do

"Quantity-based price rules cannot be applied to products with group ticket variations."

The product has a group ticket variation on it.

Remove the group variation, or use a time-based or early bird rule instead.

"A price rule can only be applied to a package with a single pass (one pass at quantity 1). Adjust the package passes to use a price rule."

The package includes more than one pass, or a pass at a quantity above one.

Change the package so it includes one pass at a quantity of one.

No Price rule drop-down on a product that came from HQ. Instead you see which rule HQ has assigned, and can't change it.

HQ has cleared Can change price rules on HQ products for your venue.

Contact your HQ administrator. You can still edit your local tier prices.

What HQ controls and what your venue controls

If you manage multiple venues, price rules can be created and controlled from HQ so pricing stays consistent across locations. All four rule types can be created and managed from an HQ venue, on every product type they support, including party packages.

FAQs

Can I apply two price rules to the same product?

Each product uses one price rule at a time. If you want pricing to respond to two things at once (eg both quantity and time of day), pick the one that matters more to your venue and review the results before changing approach.

Can I use a quantity-based rule on a party package?

Party packages work with time-based and early bird rules, and with capacity-based rules in beta. Quantity-based rules count tickets individually, and a party package is priced as a structured bundle, so quantity-based tiers don't apply to one.

Can I change a rule's tiers while it's applied to a product?

You can change tier prices on the product at any time. To change the rule's own tiers, schedules or lead times, unlink the rule from every product using it first.

Do price rule changes affect bookings already taken?

No. Changes to a rule or its prices apply to new bookings. Bookings already taken keep the price they were sold at.
