Why isn’t my discount code automatically applying to my overlay checkout?

Introduction

You can automatically apply a discount code when guests open an overlay checkout from your website. This can increase conversion rates, reduce drop-off and ensure that your guests don’t miss out on deals you’re offering. To use it, your developer just needs to include the code when triggering the overlay checkout.

Cause

When implementing the overlay checkout, the discount may not apply as expected, preventing guests from using it.

This issue occurs when the Redemption instructions field is left blank in the discount code settings. This field is required for the code to automatically apply to an overlay checkout. Redemption instructions should provide guests with information on eligible products, booking details and redemption dates where applicable.

Solution

Update the discount code settings in Venue Manager to include redemption instructions.

Update your discount code redemption instructions

1. From Venue Manager, go to Products > Discount codes > All codes.
2. Select the discount code you want to automatically apply to the online checkout.
3. Enter text into the Redemption instructions field.
4. Open the overlay checkout link.
5. Confirm that the discount code automatically applied.
6. Select Save.
