Minimum hardware and operating requirements for ROLLER

Prev Next

This article outlines the minimum hardware requirements and operating specifications for any device running ROLLER.

ROLLER doesn’t provide hardware support. If you don't have experienced staff, consider working with an IT services partner for assistance.

Internet requirements

ROLLER applications require a stable, high-speed internet connection to perform well.

We recommend that you:

  • Set up a primary DSL or cable connection with minimum download and upload speeds of at least 20 Mbps.

  • Have a backup wireless internet dongle or device ready in case your primary connection goes down.

Wi-Fi vs cabled connections

We recommend using network cabling to connect all devices to a local area network (LAN) through network switches to ensure reliable internet access.

If you use Wi-Fi, set up a commercial-grade system built for business needs. Consumer routers and access points won’t effectively handle business-level data traffic.

Test your internet performance

To ensure your internet connection meets the required speeds, follow these steps to test its performance:

  1. Visit www.speedtest.net on the device you want to test.

  2. Select Go.

  3. Compare your results with the recommended minimum download and upload speeds listed above.

Browser compatibility

ROLLER apps are web-based and specifically designed, built, and tested for optimal performance on Google Chrome.

For the best experience and reliability, we strongly recommend using Google Chrome.

Device requirements

Each time that you purchase a machine, check that the specifications meet the operating requirements below.

To see your device’s specifications, read this quick guide from Microsoft.

This section outlines the computer requirements to run:

  • Point of Sale (POS)

  • Waiver Kiosk

  • Self-Serve Kiosk (SSK)

Processor (CPU) requirements

Each time that you purchase a machine, confirm that the processor meets ROLLER’s minimum requirements of an Intel Core i5 or higher (i7 or above is preferable)

When manufacturers launch a new version of a model, they may change processors so it’s important to confirm even if you’re purchasing a new version of a model you’ve used before. For example, consider the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet which has recently switched from an Intel Core processor (CPU) to a Snapdragon processor (CPU).

Choosing machines with ROLLER's recommended requirements ensures your venue operates efficiently and reliably during peak times, and extends the performance longevity of your equipment. If the device is primarily for handling waivers, an Intel Core i3 should work but keep in mind it may not deliver the best performance.

Operating system requirements

ROLLER POS and self-serve kiosks are currently compatible only with Windows operating systems.

For the best performance, make sure your devices are running Windows 11.

Currently, ROLLER still supports Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 in October 2025, which means Windows 10 devices no longer receive security updates. We recommend updating your devices to Windows 11.

ROLLER does not support:

  • Windows 32 Bit Systems

  • Windows 10 IoT

  • Windows Embedded

  • Windows XP

  • Windows Vista

  • Windows 7/8

  • macOS

Check with your specific payment terminal provider as their operating system requirements may vary from the above.

Receipt and docket printers

ROLLER Point of Sale (POS) and Self-Serve Kiosk (SSK) support printers that meet the following requirements:

  • Must be under 5 years old for compatibility and reliability reasons.

  • Must have a paper roll width of 80 mm.

  • Must have a USB or Ethernet connection. Cloud printing is supported by Ethernet or strong Wi-Fi.

  • If used with a cash drawer, the printer must have an RJ12 port.

ROLLER supports two ways of connecting receipt, docket, and ticket printers to your venue: cloud printing and ROLLER Connect (legacy). The capabilities unlocked for each method differ, and the right choice depends on what you need to print and which features your venue uses. See the section Should I use cloud printing to learn more.

Recommended models

We recommend having more than one printer for production dockets to better manage the printing load.

ROLLER supports the following models for cloud printing receipts and dockets in your venue.

  • EPSON TM-m30II (Ethernet)

  • EPSON TM-M30III (Ethernet)

  • EPSON TM-T88VII (Ethernet)

  • EPSON TM-T82III (Ethernet)

  • EPSON TM-U220IIB (Ethernet)

The EPSON TM-U220IIB is a Dot Matrix receipt printer and is designed to operate in high-temperature environments, for example, in a kitchen or near a heat lamp.

ROLLER supports the following models for printing receipts and dockets in your venue through ROLLER Connect.

  • Epson TM-M30

  • Epson TM-T88VI

  • Epson TM-T88V

  • Bixolon SRP - 350 III

Wristband printers

To print wristbands at your venue, you'll need to use ROLLER Connect. If your venue uses cloud printing, you can use ROLLER Connect just for wristbands and cloud printing for receipt and docket printing.

Wristband printers we recommend are:

  • Zebra ZD510-HC

  • Zebra ZD410

Read the Wristband printing fact sheet to find out more.

Cash drawers

ROLLER POS connects with cash drawers via the receipt printer. Most printers support a cash drawer with an RJ12 connector.

Cash drawers we recommend are:

  • APG Vasario Series

  • MMF Cash Drawer Advantage

The voltage needed to trigger a cash drawer can vary. Be sure to verify that your receipt printer’s output voltage matches the requirement.

Barcode scanners

ROLLER Point of Sale (POS) supports any type of 2D barcode scanner with a USB connection.

Some commonly used 2D barcode scanners are:

  • Zebra DS8108-SR

  • Zebra DS9208

Karting requirements

All Pit Lane PC and Digital Signage device and operating system requirements are the same for ROLLER Karting as they are for ROLLER.
